Keeping Dallas Beautiful.

DALLAS, TX – February 16, 2022 – Every month, Good Earth Inc., a landscaping management and remediation company, not only mows thousands of acres of municipal lands such as parks, but also removes tons of trash from waterways and streets. Now, the company is beautifying its own neighborhood, commissioning Texas mural artist Shelbi Nicole of Shelbi Nicole Designs for a two-story indoor mural accented with live moss and visible from the street. In addition, Good Earth constructed a 3D metal sculpture of its logo—a “G” shaped like a tree—for the atrium in front of its company headquarters.

Family-owned and operated, Good Earth was founded by Ron Points in 1976. Ron is the CEO, son Kevin is president, daughter Emily is vice president and long-time family friend, George Belk, is COO. The siblings were all born and raised in Dallas and went to area schools.

Three years ago, Good Earth relocated the company from its prior smaller building, where it had been for over 20 years, to its current address at 7922 Forney. The sleek, new 10,000-sf office building is located in Pleasant Grove, an industrial area of southeast Dallas that is a mix of not only businesses, but homes and churches serving low to mid-income residents. The Points family decided that part of their responsibility in beautifying the neighborhood was to start with their own building.

“We invested a substantial amount of money in upgrading our property and hope to inspire other area businesses to do the same,” said Ron.

Ron has an artistic eye, a penchant for color and is known as “Dr. Bulb” for his vision to plant 10,000 daffodil flower bulbs to brighten up the Dallas Athletic Club.

“We’ve done a few rebrands over the years, but wanted something fresh,” he adds. “Shelbi Nicole is my daughter-in-law and I went to her Whimsy World exhibit in Houston and remembered the vibrant colors and ‘wow factor’ of her art. We needed some color so this is a win-win.”

The mural also serves as the backdrop for the Good Earth metal sculpture in front. At 14 feet tall, the logo sculpture is quite large and was constructed of 8-inch-diameter pipes by PipeBenders, a Houston company that specializes in bending pipe. The large sculpture was transported to Dallas in four pieces and then powder-coated by a local company.

“Since our new logo resembles a tree, we had the idea of creating a sculpture of it for our atrium,” said Kevin. “I was responsible for sizing it, including selecting the type of pipe and the structure.”

About the Artist.

“It’s not done often, but I’m going to add botanical elements to the mural through a process called moss graffiti,” said Shelbi Nicole. “I create a moss paste, paint it on and the moss grows in that exact design. Because it’s literally going to be a living mural, I’m careful to paint shapes where there is sunlight in the room. I’ll start by adding subtle pops, but we can also add to it in the future.”

Shelbi Nicole is adding the moss graffiti in mid-February and Good Earth is ideally suited for caring for the moss as it grows.

This is Shelbi Nicole’s first big project in Dallas. The in-demand mural artist is based in Houston, and has painted indoor and outdoor artworks for local businesses since 2012.
